ORGANIZATION SUMMARY: Emerald Youth Foundation is a Christian, urban youth and community ministry in Knoxville, TN serving over 2,000 young people annually. Emerald Youth’s ministry is implemented through a network of more than 18 churches and faith-based organizations to raise up a large number of urban youth who love Jesus Christ and become effective leaders who help renew their communities.
Life skills or Academic Mentor – work one-on-one or in small groups with high school age young people in a specific subject area. Coach students on fundamentals necessary to prepare for college or career path.
Tutor or Homework Help – help high school age young people as needed with homework (only available during the school year)
ACT Prep Facilitator – facilitate and/or support related activities to prepare students for ACT exams in a particular subject area (math, science, reading, English).
Enrichment Activity Leader – facilitate and/or support related activities to share a special skill or hobby, i.e., art projects, creative writing, poetry slam, science experiments, trivia nights, etc.
Time(s): School year: 2 or more hours a week Monday through Friday, 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.(Commitment: a semester, but a school year is preferred.
Summer: 2 or more hours a week during the day on weekdays.
*All selected volunteer candidates are required to complete a background screening prior to placement in a volunteer opportunity with Emerald Youth Foundation.
